Steve's Real Food Lamu is a delicious freeze-dried raw dog food made with lamb and emu meat. Lamb is a novel protein that creates mealtime excitement for picky eaters, and it's easily digestible for pets with sensitive stomachs. Emu is lean, red meat that is also considered a novel protein. The American Heart Association recognizes emu meat as a healthy alternative to beef, with a higher count of iron, protein, and vitamin c; and lower in cholesterol, fat, and calories. Freeze-dried Lamu is complete and balanced for all stages of life, and can be fed to dogs and cats.

Rehydrating freeze-dry food is recommended to help with digestion. We designed our food to be soft and easy to rehydrate. To rehydrate, simply follow steps 1-3:
Use our feeding calculator as a starting point for your pet. Each four-legged friend will metabolize food differently based on their activity level, breed, age, etc.
Unopened bags can be kept and fed for 12 months. Opened bags should be used within 30 days and stored in a cool, dark cupboard.
Treat raw pet food with the same care as handling raw meat for your consumption. Always wash your hands after handling and everything that comes in contact with the raw pet food.
Our original freeze-dried diets are available in 1.25 lb (20 oz) bags and makes 5 pounds of food once it’s rehydrated.
If you are feeding it as the pet’s main diet, YES, it is vitally important to rehydrate the foods before feeding them. To make rehydration easy, we have made our freeze-dried foods soft and easy to crumble. This allows the food to absorb moisture quickly. If you use freeze-dried pet food as a treat, rehydrating is NOT required.
You can use water, low-sodium bone broth, raw goat milk, or kefir.
The food has an unopened shelf life of about 2 years, and you can find an expiration date on each bag. We suggest to use opened bags of food within 30 days so the food is still at peak freshness.
Yes, some dogs have sensitivities or allergies to common proteins like chicken or beef, but lamb is considered a novel protein, and usually a pretty safe bet.
Yes, raw meaty lamb bones can be a great addition to your pet's routine. Cooked lamb bones should never be given because they break and splinter easily, and those pieces get stuck in your dog’s esophagus or digestive tract. Never leave your pet unattended while chewing a bone.
Our Lamu diet does not contain lamb bone, but does contain emu bone.
Yes, boneless, skinless lamb meat is a great source or protein, iron, and omega fatty acids. It is also something dogs don't typically eat or smell, so it's great at creating mealtime excitement. It is is to digest and is usually a safe option for dogs with allergies to other common proteins.
No, lamb meal is a rendered product that has gone through a process of extremely high heat, pressurizing, fat melting, water evaporation, and enzyme inactivation. That process essentially destroys any nutritional value. Not only does this process denature proteins, but most of the ingredients that go into meat meals contain very little nutrition to start with. The majority of material that goes into meat meals come from parts of an animal that isn't used for human consumption such as bones, organs, blood, feathers, slaughter floor waste, and condemned material that was rejected for human consumption. Our foods NEVER contain any ‘meat meals’ because we consider them to be an inferior ingredient.
